About Proxies

(printer-friendly version)

Emory University Instructors may identify a person or persons to act on their behalf at the Circulation desk. When a person acting as a proxy checks out materials for a faculty member, those materials are recorded on the Faculty member's record. There are two different levels of proxy both of which expire August 31 of each year.

Full Proxy Privilege

Proxy privileges allow for a faculty member to identify a person or persons to act on their behalf at the General Libraries Circulation desks. When a person acting as a proxy checks out materials for a faculty member, those materials are recorded on the Faculty member's record. Proxies also have full access to the faculty member's record including information about fines, overdue materials, etc. Only faculty, graduate students, and staff members may assign individuals as proxies, and only for university research purposes. For more information, please contact the Woodruff Circulation Desk.

Media Proxy Privilege

Media Proxy privileges allow for an instructor to identify a person or persons to act on their behalf when checking out booked items at the Heilbrun Music and Media Circulation desk. The item that the proxy is sent to check out must be booked by the instructor ahead of time. When a person acting as a proxy checks out materials for an instructor, those materials are recorded on the instructor's record. These limited proxies DO NOT have any access to the instructor's record including information about fines, overdue materials, etc. Only instructors may assign individuals as Media Proxies, and only for the purposes of checking out booked visual materials for use in the classroom.

To request that an individual be given Media Proxy Status for you, please email the Media Coordinator, with the following information:

    1. Whether you want the student to have limited (booked media items only) or full proxy privilege.
    2. Your name and SSN OR Emory ID
    3. Name of proxy and their SSN OR Emory ID
    4. The following statement: "I have read and understand the media/full proxy policy."
