  • Emory Students
  • Employees classified by Emory as University staff and by the Emory Libraries as staff.
  • Spouses & domestic partners of Emory faculty members.

Circulation Policies for DVD-LEND Items
  • 2 items at a time per patron.
  • All items are due at 3 p.m. on the 2nd day after checkout, including weekends, except days on which the library is closed.
  • No renewals and no re-checkout upon returning an item.
  • Retain your checkout receipt for verification of the due date.
  • Returns must be made directly to the Music and Media Library service desk during operating hours.

A valid picture ID is required at checkout. Privileges are not transferable: the borrower must come in person to the library.

DVDs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The library does not offer reservations, and recalls may not be placed through EUCLID. Library staff will, however, attempt to accommodate any special course-related need upon request.

Overdue Fines and Other Fees

All items are due at 3:00 p.m.
Overdue fines:

For the first 3 days: $1.00 per day or portion of a day
After 3 days: $5.00 per day or portion of a day.

For calculation of fines, a new day begins at 3:00 p.m.

For example: for a DVD due Monday and
returned Tuesday before 3 p.m.: fine is $1.
returned Tuesday at or after 3 p.m.: fine is $2.

Grace period: items returned before closing on the date due will not incur a fine.

After 12 Days

Titles not returned within 12 days of the date due will be declared lost. The borrower will be billed for the replacement cost ($30 or the actual cost of the item, whichever is greater) plus the maximum overdue fine of $35, plus a $15 processing fee, for a total of $80 minimum. The processing fee and fine are not refundable. The replacement cost may be waived if the item is returned within 21 days of the date of billing.

Patrons who fail to return items needed for class or repeatedly fail to return other DVDs risk loss or suspension of privileges.

Help Make this Program Work!
  • Return materials complete and in a timely manner, so that others may borrow them.
  • If notified that a DVD is needed for reserve or a class showing, return it as soon as possible.
  • Notify the library staff right away if you lose or damage a disc—this will speed the replacement process and help avoid unnecessary overdue fines.

Help preserve the collection by handling materials responsibly:

  • Handle discs by their edges.
  • Notify the library staff of discs that need cleaning
  • Avoid book drops and other conditions in which the disc or housing may be crushed or damaged.

Restrictions on Use
DVDs are lent for the purpose of viewing in the home or showing in official Emory classes only. Other uses, including showings on campus, may violate terms of the license pertaining to the title. The borrower is responsible for observing all licensing restrictions and pertinent laws. Please contact the library staff if you need further information.

How to search EUCLID for Lending Collection titles that interest you

All items in the DVD Lending Collection are assigned the item type DVD-LEND in EUCLID. Using the "Complex Search" function, select the item type DVD-LEND and enter a blank search. This will pull up all the DVD titles that have DVD-LEND copies.

Alternatively, set the item type to DVD-LEND and specify authors, titles, subjects, or keywords in which you are interested. (Use the Author box to search for directors and principal cast members.)

About the Lending Collection

The DVD Lending Collection consists of about 3,700 titles selected from the library's holdings. It includes many recent and in-demand titles, but excludes very expensive and hard-to-obtain discs. Titles frequently used for classes are in the lending collection only when the library holds more than one copy. In keeping with the library's emphasis on supporting research and instruction, DVD-LEND items may be booked by instructors for classroom use or put on course reserve and restricted to use in the library. Any title may removed from the lending collection if the library staff determines that is in the best interest of the Emory community.
